My first Edison board

Before doing something more advanced, I wanted to make my own breakout board for the Edison, just to check if I got the footprint right. I now have a couple of questions,

1. To get the Edison running, do I just need to have power between VSYS and GND?
2. Can I leave floating pins like : RESET_OUT#,  RCVR_MODE, FW_RCVR, PWRBTN#?
3. Can the 70-pins DF40 receptacle be hand soldered? (that's what I planned to do)
